The United States of America is 240 years old! Our nation’s first Fourth of July celebration started in 1776 with the signing of the Declaration of Independence uniting the thirteen colonies into one nation. One nation under God.
Can you imagine what the 56 men were thinking that signed the Declaration? They weren’t thinking this is going to be fun.
They were . . .
Scared yet Brave.
Weak yet Strong.
Humble yet Confident.
These men were not only signing their name to the document declaring independence but also their family’s name. They were essentially putting a target on themselves and their family. The courage they must have had.
How could they do it?
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your GOD is the one who goes with you; He will not fail you or forsake you.” Deut. 31:6
They realized it was more important to unite than stand alone.
Today we’re going to celebrate the Fourth of July at the golf clubhouse with family, food, fireworks, and fun. But I will remember those men that took the first stand for our country and the men and women who stand for our country today. Because of them we have freedom.
How thankful I am for this land of the free because of the brave!
God Bless America
