Cleve Won The Club Championship At Clarksburg Country Club!
He did it; he won Club Championship at Clarksburg Country Club! But he won’t tell anyone. He’s modest and doesn’t want to seem prideful, but I’m going to tell it. Here’s a great big shoutout to Cleve –
He’s actually won Club Championship 3 times. Some wins were easy because he was playing great, while others he struggled with his swing. Every win is different. Every golf game is different.
It’s amazing how you can play the same golf course, know every hazard, know every perfect spot to be, but the outcome is different every time! You have to play the course. And, doesn’t it feel good when you beat it.
Have you ever noticed how professional golfers can win a tournament one week and then finish somewhere in the middle the next? Of course, they’re playing a different course every week, but they do have practice rounds and hopefully an extremely knowledgeable caddy.
A caddy that possesses course knowledge is a great asset. You can take any level of player and by just giving them a knowledgeable caddy, their score will improve. A great caddy lends to a great score. But why?
Caddies Not Only Read The Course,
They Read The Player.
Cleve had a caddy during the club championship this year, his son. Andrew is twelve and knowledgeable about golf and the course they were playing. But, the key is that Andrew knows Cleve’s swing. He knows what Cleve’s been working on and what he wants to avoid.
For instance, on the first hole of the second round Cleve was nervous. He told Andrew that he thought everything was happening too fast. They decided to just take a deep breath and slow down. By the second hole Cleve was calm and settled in. Andrew, the caddy, was there to help.
Andrew may only be twelve years old, but he knows enough that Cleve trusts and confides in him about his shots. Don’t we all want that? Just to have someone along that knows our personal swing, our weaknesses, our strengths, and to be able to talk over shots with them. What a great idea! That must be why the PGA golfers pay a lot for a great caddy and they usually become great friends too.
What A Friend!
You know what I’m going to say. It makes me think of the great friend we have in Jesus. To have someone that is with us along the way that knows us personally, our weaknesses, our strengths. Just knowing that is great reassurance. Sometimes we have life changing decisions to make and can feel overwhelmed just thinking about them. That’s when we need to stop and think about Jesus. What He did for us. . . What He went through for us. . . How much He loves us.
God the Father gave his one and only beloved son to die for us.
He hasn’t forgotten about us.
He has way too much invested in us.
Just like how a great caddy knows the course and knows the player, God knows the course we’re on. And He knows us too. He’s there to help us if we will just listen to Him.
“What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.”
